Navdhara India Dance Theatre (NIDT) - India

Agni
Post-performance discussion July 23

The DanceWorx (Navdhara India Dance Theatre)  returns for their third visit to Suzanne Dellal Centre with Agni. In Hindi, "Agni" is fire, a symbol of destruction and purification, beginnings and endings. It gives light yet destroys to the point of darkness. As passions arise, personal and political walls are destroyed and new ones are built. In this contemporary Indian dance-theater piece, the dancers explore the concept of "Agni," the body and death in its various manifestations. Agni is a journey of fire that must be experienced, more than seen; felt, more than understood.
Navdhara India Dance Theatre (NIDT) is an Indian dance company based in Mumbai, known for its colorful cinematic Bollywood-inspired dance performances. The company was founded by internationally acclaimed choreographer Ashley Lobo with the goal of channeling the creative energies of young dancers in India and giving them a platform to reach an international audience. NIDT combines the physical practices of western dance and the spiritual philosophies of India and Indian dance to achieve “Nav-dhara” or ”new flow.” Neither eastern nor western in nature, the only allegiance is to the truth of breath and ”prana” or life energy.
